Eastern Red Cedar

Eastern Red Cedar

What an aromatic wood this is. And it is a soft wood, compared to Maple or Ash. The brilliant red stands out and just screams, "Look at me!!". All of my bowls are finished with 5 coats of a food safe finish and sanded between coats. Any chemicals in the wood will not leach into the food and any food you put into the bowl will not stain the wood.

Cherry

Cherry

This piece came from my back yard. I lost the top out of an old Cherry Tree, but it still blooms in the spring. The limb was a 'wonky' shape. You can see how the grain is all over the place. And that is how the shape came to be. It reminds me of someone stopping suddenly and trying to back up. The cracks are filled with lichens that grow on the sides of trees. I then fill it in with a clear resin and sand it smooth. The lichens complete the wood.
4 1/2" H x 6 1/2" Diameter. $142.00

Maple

Maple

There are a lot of old trees where I live. There was a huge Maple I called my "Guardian". It came down in a storm, but it lives on in another life. Look at the color in the wood. It is all natural. A little spalting [a nice word for rot], a smattering of blue stain and lichen filled cracks. Add a food safe finish and it is ready for pop corn. Let's make that buttered pop corn.
7" H x 7" Diameter. $325.00 .

Dogwood

Dogwood

I love this wood. It is a very hard and dense wood, but the results make it worth while. The cracks are filled with lichens and sealed with a clear resin. Even though it is a very hard wood, as I sand it, it feels soft, but it is not soft. The Cherokee people had a belief that little people lived among the Dogwoods. Their purpose was to teach the people to live in harmony with the trees in the woods. The 'dogwood people' protected babies, the aged and the infirm.
3 1/2" H x 7" Diameter. $109.00

Hackberry

Hackberry

Considered by many as a garbage tree, the Hackberry redefines ‘garbage’. What is the saying? One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure?
4" H x 6" Diameter. $85.00

This color is natural and gives the little bowl an ethereal look, like the cosmos. Now you can have your own little Meditation Bowl for those quiet times. Hold the bowl in the palm of one hand and with your other finger trace the life lines of the tree. Think about what the tree looked like when it was alive. It comes with a card to help you start your meditation. Each bowl is entirely different.
